Qingpu’s West Hongqiao Area emerges as key hub for Hongqiao CBD growth Release time:March 27,2025

The West Hongqiao area has achieved multiple milestones in its development, playing a significant role in Qingpu District’s efforts to serve national strategies, said Qingpu District Director Jin Xiaoming at a recent municipal government press conference regarding the achievements of the Hongqiao International Central Business District after four years of construction.

Jin noted that over the past year, Qingpu has comprehensively advanced the construction of the Qingpu section of the Hongqiao CBD, achieving a 22.7 percent growth in fixed-asset investment across society, an 8.8 percent increase in revenue from large-scale service industries, and a 27.8 percent rise in newly registered corporate entities.

Qingpu has provided all-round support for the China International Import Expo, with nine "6+365" platforms attracting 30 trade institutions. The Hongqiao International Convention and Exhibition Industrial Park has gathered over 400 companies, generating revenues exceeding 3 billion yuan (US$413.22 million). As the first in Shanghai to pilot the "1210 export" model, Qingpu recorded cross-border e-commerce import and export volumes of 5.67 billion yuan, ranking second citywide.

The district has established 13 specialized industrial parks, including the Beidou West Hongqiao Base and the National Exhibition Center’s productive services hub, while emerging sectors like film technology and e-commerce livestreaming have flourished. Qingpu’s innovative "Beidou + low-altitude economy" integration model earned it a spot on China’s first list of cities for Beidou large-scale application pilots. Over the past three years, high-tech enterprises in the district have grown by 88.6 percent.

Qingpu continues to attract industry leaders, certifying five new corporate headquarters in the Hongqiao CBD and hosting 28 headquarters enterprises—including China Nuclear Engineering & Construction Group and Midea—as well as three regional headquarters of multinationals like Informa. Projects such as Zhonghuan Advanced and Ronghe New Energy have commenced, while 25 industrial projects totaling 29.7 billion yuan in investment, including those from Skshu Three Trees and XinChao Media, are accelerating.

Additionally, the district is speeding up industry-city integration, with the high school division of Shanghai World Foreign Language School now operational and the Anta Sports Park set to break ground soon.

Jin emphasized that Qingpu will next focus on niche sectors like exhibitions, enterprise global expansion services, fashion consumption, and headquarters economy to further contribute to building an international-class CBD.
