To promote Qingpu's intangible cultural heritage among the global youth community, an immersive cultural experience event was held attheGrand View Garden onApril 19.
Over 70 participants, including international studentsfrom various countries, faculty and student delegates from Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, and officials from relevant QingpuDistrict departments, gathered by the shores of Dianshan Lake to embark on a journey of traditional cultural exploration.
The event took place at Qingpu's Grand View Garden, the filming location of the 1987 TV series“Dream of the Red Chamber.”By integrating the garden’s meticulously restored classic scenes with the natural and cultural landscapes of Dianshan Lake, the event provided international students with a dual experience of literary artistry and visual aesthetics.
Amid the ancient charm of the Chinese-style garden, students from China and abroad dressed in traditional Hanfu attire engaged in distinctive activities such as appreciating excerpts from the Yue Opera adaptation of“Dream of the Red Chamber”and hands-on experiences making traditional Chinese pastries. These activities allowed them to personally experience the enchanting fusion of classical literature and intangible cultural heritage.
A Russian student from Shanghai University of Political Science and Law shared that visiting the Grand View Garden, watching the Yue Opera performance, and learning about the historical figures in“Dream of the Red Chamber”gave her a more intuitive understanding of Chinese traditional culture, broadening her perspective on Chinese heritage.
By combining real-world immersion with cultural practices, this event created a cross-border and cross-temporal platform for cultural dialogue among young people from around the world. In the future,Qingpu will adopt more diverse and dynamic approaches to promote the exchange of China’s outstanding traditional culture among global youth.
