World-class windsurfers gather at Qingpu for Olympic-qualifying regatta Release time:November 17,2025

The 2025 iQFOiLMasterInternational Tournamentkicked off on November 15 in Jinze Town, Qingpu District, drawing nearly 130 elite windsurfers from over ten countries and regions, including France, Italy, South Korea, and Thailand, to compete on the shimmering waters of Yuandang Lake.

As an officially approved Olympic-class points event by World Sailing, this year's competition reached new heights in both skill level and international participation. Top athletes such as Huang Jingye and Lu Yunxiu from the Chinese national windsurfing team went board-to-board against international stars like Fabian Pianazzola, the defending men's professional champion from Italy.

The expansive waters of Yuandang Lake provided ideal conditions for the athletes. "Qingpu's water conditions are highly suitable for hosting high-level windsurfing events," said Li Quanhai, president of World Sailing, in an interview.

Lu,gold medalist in the Women's RS:X at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, returned to Qingpu for the third time. "This year we're competing on the lake near Grand View Garden, where the waters are more open and the wind conditions are relatively better," shesaid, adding that Qingpu's unique Jiangnan watertown environment offers athletes a perfect setting for relaxation amid intense competition.

The organizing committee arranged cultural excursions for participants to sites including the ancient Jinze Town, Qingxi CountrysidePark, Yuyuan Garden & City God Temple, and the Bund, allowing athletes to fully experience Qingpu's natural scenery and Shanghai's urban charm.

As the birthplace of China's modern sailing culture, Shanghai carries profound historical significance in the sport. Jinze Town's Yuandang Lake, with its wide expanse and stable winds, offers natural advantages for top-tier windsurfing competitions. This combination of geographic and cultural appeal has attracted world-class athletes to the event.

Around the competition venue, the organizers also set up exhibition zones featuring local green agricultural products, traditional craft workshops, and cultural and creative products.
