Qingpu thrives as key engine to drive a strong growth in Yangtze River Delta region Release time:February 05,2026
The Yangtze River Delta Ecology and Greenery Integration Demonstration Zone registereda yearly nominal GDP growth rate of 7.3 percentto 571.6 billion yuan (US$82.3 billion)in 2025,officials said during arecentgovernment press conference.
Made up of QingpuDistrict in southwest Shanghai, WujiangDistrict of Suzhou in southern JiangsuProvince, and JiashanCounty in northeast ZhejiangProvince, the demonstration zone was set up in 2019 to better facilitate the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, which was elevated as a national strategy in November 2018.
In 2025, Qingpu District achieved a GDP growth rate of 7.3percent, securing the second-highest growth pace citywide.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period(2021-2025), over 50 key demonstration zone projects with a total investment ofaround160 billion yuan accelerated their construction. Among them, the Huawei Lianqiu Lake R&D Center was completed and put into operation, while the innovative Xicen International Talent Hub was established. The 8th China International Import Expo set new records in the number of overseas participating enterprises, intended transaction value, and peak single-day visitor traffic. Leading companies including Midea, NetEase, and Antahave settled in the HongqiaoInternational Open HubQingpusection, bringing the total number of various headquarters gathered there to 38.
Qingpu is making comprehensive efforts to build a modern industrial system. The scale of its next-generation information technology, modern logistics, and high-end equipment manufacturing industries reached 103.7 billion yuan, 399.8 billion yuan, and 91.9 billion yuan, respectively.
The National University Science Park of Fudan University and a national key laboratory from Tongji University have been established in the district. In 2025, the number of talent registrations in Qingpu increased by 17.1percent, with registrations by overseas students rising by 14percent,the highest growth rate in Shanghai.
On the livelihood front, key infrastructure projects including the western extensions of Metro Lines 2 and 17, the western extension of Songze Elevated Road, and the Liantang Station of the Shanghai-Suzhou-Huzhou High-Speed Railway were completed and opened. The Red House Obstetrics & GynecologyHospital began operations, and the main structure of the first phase of the Zhongshan Hospital National Medical Center was topped out. A 23-kilometer stretch of the Yuandang Lake waterfront was fully connected.
As this year marks the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan period(2025-2030), Qingpu will accelerate the development of the Xicen Science and Innovation Park and the Yangtze River Delta Qingpu-Wujiang-Jiashan High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, aiming to fully amplify the spillover effects from Huawei. The district will strive to build a globally influential supply chain management hub, supporting leading logistics enterprises in transforming into integrated supply chain service providers to upgrade the modern logistics industry.
