Qingpu District launched its 2026 cultural heritage season on June 12to mark the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day with diversified activities.
A total of 40 key heritage events will be rolled out across Qingpu from June to December this year, covering museums, ancient towns, community classrooms and commercial plazas, enabling residents and tourists to savor the everlasting charm of Chinese cultural heritage.
Highlighted programs include Jiangnansizhu(traditional instrumental music) gatherings in ancient water towns, a Yangtze River Delta archaeological exhibition tracing regional shared civilization roots, and a series of immersive heritage experience activities.
The exhibition "Eastern Star: Archaeology in Qingpu and the Exploration of the Origins of the Yangtze River Delta Civilization" draws on archeological findings spanning around 6,000 years, offering insight into the region's shared cultural roots and long history of interaction.
In Liantang Town, an intangible cultural heritage market, heritage project roadshows and immersive performances were staged on Friday, showcasing heritage protection efforts and innovation in Qingpu. A batch of heritage-themed activities were unveiled to fuel culture and tourism integrated development.
A cross-regional bazaar gathered featured specialties and heritage crafts from Qingpu, Wujiang and Jiashan in the Yangtze River Delta region.Jiaobai, wild rice shoots,zongzi, a wrapped steamed glutinous rice dumpling with different fillings, ancient incense making, watertown lantern craft,pankou(frog fastener), local rice cakes and traditional sugar painting offered visitors hands-on intangible cultural heritage experience and shopping options.
Four heritage inheritors delivered roadshow presentations covering Liantang glutinous rice pastry making, architectural colored glaze craft, Zhao's dried tofu making and one-piece cheongsam tailoring.
Qingpu prioritizes the integrated development of agriculture, culture, commerce, tourism, sports and exhibition industries, known locally as the six-industry integration. The district aims to shift cultural heritage from static preservation to living inheritance, breaking industrial barriers to realize mutual empowerment between heritage resources and key local industries.
