Jinze Ancient Town
Jinze is an ancient town famous for bridges. It is renowned as the “hometown of bridges in areas southern to the Yangtze River”. It is a town full of rivers and stone bridges. On a 350 meter’s long river nearby the Xiatang Street, visitors would see five ancient bridges of Song Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. Apart from rivers and bridges, Jinze Ancient Town also has many temples. Many temples were connected to bridges. There were several temples and nunneries in the town until the period of Republic of China. As time goes by, a lot of temples connected to bridges no longer exist, but we still can see a lot of couplets inscribed on the bridges for conveying Buddhist doctrines. We can still find traces of temples and nunneries beside several bridges, such as Xuantong Nunnery beside Tahui Bridge, Guan Yu Temple beside Linlao Bridge, Zongguan Temple beside Fangsheng Bridge, Master Temple beside Ruyi Bridge, Heavenly King Temple beside Tianwangge Bridge and the famous Yihao Buddhist Temple at the entrance of Puji Bridge.
