Zhang Ling, a 24-year-old rower from Qingpu District, and her teammates Lv Yang, Cui Xiaotong and Chen Yunxia won the women's quadruple sculls event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on Wednesday.
This was the 10th gold medal won by Chinese athletes in Tokyo. It was also the first time that an athlete from Qingpu stood on the winner's rostrum with gold.
Zhang is a senior at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She became a rowing team member of a youth sports school in the suburban district in 2009 and was picked for the city’s and the national rowing team in 2015.
She has won a lot of medals at home and abroad.
For example, she and her teammate won the women's single sculls and quadruple sculls at China’s Youth Games in 2015. Zhang’s team also took gold in the women's double sculls and quadruple sculls at the world rowing championships in 2020.
