Baihe Town’s first batch of strawberries hit the market Release time:November 22,2023

The strawberry plants in the cooperatives of Baihe Town, known as hometown of strawberries, are growing well, and the first batch of Baihe Strawberries have gradually ripened and hit the market.

A large number of strawberries are expected to go on the market in the middle and late December.

In the greenhouse of Shanghai Yinghe Vegetable Professional Cooperative in Baihe Town, the strawberry seedlings are lushly green and dotted with white flowers, and there are many bright red and tender fruits hidden among the green leaves.

"We have planted 58 mu of strawberries this year, and the 'Red Beauty' variety accounts for more than 80 percent of the total. This variety has a large size and full fruit, and it is very popular in the market," said Hu Huiling, who is in charge of the Yinghe Cooperative. "Now the first batch of strawberries has ripened and started to go on sale."

Due to the high temperature in the autumn this year, the strawberries ripened early and did not have a chance to grow larger. When the temperature drops in mid-December and large quantities of strawberries hit the market, their size will be larger and their sweetness will be better, Hu added.

At present, the cooperative has a stable daily output of 25 to 30 kilograms and the price is around 100 yuan (US$13.79) per kilogram.

Citizens who want to taste fresh strawberries can visit the cooperative offline or purchase online through the "Yu Mi Zhi Xiang" digital agriculture production and sales service platform or the "Baihe Town High-quality Agricultural Products Experience Store" applet. In the middle and late December, the cooperative will open a picking event.
