Metro Line 17 west extension achieves full structural connection Release time:January 29,2024

On January 19, 2024, the primary structure of the westward extension of Shanghai Metro Line 17 was entirely connected.

The westward extension project of Line 17 is an important rail transit route within the Yangtze River Delta demonstration zone. It will greatly enhance transportation convenience for nearby residents and contribute to the development of Hongqiao International Hub.

It extends westward from the existing Oriental Land Station to Xicen Station, covering a total length of approximately 6.6 kilometers. The extension includes one station and one section, all elevated, crossing over the G50 expressway and the third-level waterway Lanlu Gang.

Xicen Station is a three-level island-type station with a steel structure roof on top. The main building area is approximately 10,801 square meters, and its structure was capped on July 19, 2023.

The short tower cable-stayed bridge over Lanlu Gang and the continuous beam bridge over G50 expressway are critical control points in the westward extension project of Line 17.

Lanlu Gang is a third-level waterway with a high daily traffic flow. The total length of the short tower cable-stayed bridge over Lanlu Gang is 380 meters, with a main span of 180 meters, spanning the 150-meter-wide Lanlu Gang waterway. It is the domestically largest-span cable-stayed bridge of its kind in rail transit engineering.

The total length of the bridge over G50 is 261 meters, with a main span of 111 meters,  spanning the busy G50 dual 6-lane expressway.

In December 2023, the smooth closure of these two bridges was achieved consecutively.
