Qingpu police expand residence permit services for HK, Macao, Taiwan residents Release time:July 03,2024

Starting from July 1, all 18 police stations of the Qingpu Public Security Bureau (excluding the Water Public Security Station and the National Exhibition Center Police Station) have begun processing residence permits for residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Residents from these regions who meet the application criteria and live in Qingpu can now apply for their residence permits at any local police station.

"Previously, only five police stations in Qingpu could handle the residence permit applications for residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. If applicants came to inquire, we could only direct them to these five stations,” said Qu Liyan, the head of the Household Registration Office of the Qingpu Public Security Bureau. “From July 1, all 18 police stations across the district are equipped to handle these applications, allowing for the entire process, including photography and application, to be completed at a single location."

The police remind that obtaining a residence permit allows residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to enjoy rights, services and conveniences in employment, education, health, and when taking flights or trains. Residents from these regions who have lived in the Chinese mainland for over six months and have at least one of the following: legal and stable employment, legal and stable residence, or are enrolled in studies, can apply for a residence permit if they wish.

According to Qu, residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who wish to apply and meet the conditions can bring their valid identity documents, as well as proof of residence, employment and enrollment, to any police station to process their application. The residence permits will be issued within 20 working days.
