Touching time: Qingpu's historic wall returns as a new city icon Release time:February 27,2025

Anewly constructed replica of an ancient city wall, located southeast of Sanyuan River Market near the base of Chengzhong West Road Bridge, has become a popular "city landmark" for residents to visit.

This section of the wall is a reconstruction based on the historical Daximen City Wall of Qingpu, blending rich historical memories with modern waterfront landscapes. It offers citizens a cultural and leisure space to stroll and reflect on the past.

The Daximen City Wall, formally known as "Yongbao Gate," was a significant part of the Qingpu city walls. Historical records indicate that the Qingpu city walls were first built in1574,the second year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (368-1644) and completed over three years, with the Daximen Wall constructed simultaneously. Daximen had both land and water gates, serving dual functions of land and water defense. However, due to the demand for construction materials and urban expansion, this centuries-old wall was dismantled in 1958.

Now, this replica wall has been "reborn" in the old town area of Qingpu. It uses blue bricks and grey tiles to recreate the Ming Dynasty wall style, replicating details like battlements and gate openings. Combined with the natural scenery of the surrounding waterway walkways, it creates a poetic image of walls by the water and green branches brushing the shore.

The reconstruction of the city wall aims not only to restore historical appearances but also to awaken the cultural essence of the city. The Daximen City Wall holds the collective memory of the older generations of Qingpu. Its replica in the old town area pays homage to the city's roots and injects a sense of historical depth into the newtown.
