Ceramic art finds new home in water town, weaving past and present Release time:May 23,2025

The Yuansha Ceramic Art Museum has recently opened on Dongshi Street in Zhujiajiao Town. This cultural landmark, transformed from the municipally protected immovable heritage site "Zhou's Residence," integrates the intangible cultural heritage of purple clay craftsmanship with water town traditions, adding a significant cultural attraction to Zhujiajiao's bid for national 5A-level scenic spot status.

The Zhou's Residence, dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911), retains the architectural aesthetics of Jiangnan-style courtyard homes with its gray bricks and black tiles. Inside the museum, over 100 exquisite purple clay artworks by Jiangsu Provincial Master of Arts and Crafts Xu Yuanming and his apprentices are displayed, showcasing both time-honored techniques and contemporary creative innovations.

The museum has established a master workshop to offer immersive experiences in intangible cultural heritage skills.

"This museum not only preserves traditional arts but also serves as a cultural bridge between Qingpu and Yixing, the birthplace of purple clay ware. We will continue creating works that reflect modern artistic values, further enhancing the ancient town's cultural appeal."

Looking ahead, the museum will adopt an innovative "intangible heritage + cultural tourism" model, collaborating with Yixing's ceramic hub and neighboring ancient towns in the Yangtze River Delta to develop themed purple clay cultural tourism routes.
