Qingpu District signed an agreement with Midea Group for a 1.5-billion-yuan(US$208.91 million)embodied intelligence technology platform project, marking a significant milestone in both Midea’s AI ambitions and Qingpu’s strategic push to become a hub for artificial intelligence innovation.

The project will focus on home and industrial applications, developing embodied intelligent devices capable of navigating complex household environments and meeting the demands of smart manufacturing upgrades. Leveraging a data-model-evaluation integrated technical framework, the initiative adopts a dual-drive approach of technological breakthroughs and real-world implementation, accelerating the transition of intelligent service ecosystems from labs to homes and factories.

Midea is building end-to-end capabilities from R&D to industrial deployment. In smart homes, it is creating a "Home Brain" for seamless device-service coordination. For smart manufacturing, it is developing a "Factory Brain" to enhance efficiency and enable flexible production. In smart office solutions, the company is rolling out enterprise-grade AI assistants and knowledge management engines to redefine collaboration and decision-making. Beyond its core sectors, Midea is also extending its proprietary AI technologies to healthcare, industrial robotics, and other key fields, driving intelligent transformation across industries.

Qingpu, meanwhile, is reinforcing its AI ecosystem through specialized policy support under its "Ten Measures for Information Industry Development."The district will promote demonstration projects for "AI + real-world scenarios" and bolster infrastructure such as computing power, model development, and dataset applications. By fostering a full-spectrum AI industrial chain,spanning foundational chips, core algorithms, software models, smart devices, and applied innovation,Qingpu aims to solidify its position as a leader in China’s AI landscape.
