The 2026 G318 National Highway Festival and G318 Qingpu Tourism Day, themed "From the Source of Shanghai to the Roof of the World," kicked off in Zhaoxiang Town on March 18, featuring a diverse lineup of activities.
Cultural and tourism authorities from Huangpu, Jing'an, Changning, Minhang and Qingpu districts unveiled a 31.8kilometer slowtravel route along the Shanghai section of G318 on Wednesday. Starting from the zero-kilometer point of G318 at People's Square, the route connects Shanghai Museum, Normandie Apartments, Hongqiao Airport, National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), Qingpu Bailian Outlets Plaza and Songze Archaeological Site, showcasing Shanghai-style culture, Jiangnan charm and modern vitality.
G318 is known as the most beautiful national highway of China. Over the past decade, it has evolved from a major transport route into a cultural and industrial corridor linking eastern and western China.
Organizers released a "MustDrive G318 Passport" and launched initiatives for a slowtravel cultural corridor. Themed tours "From the Source of Shanghai to the Roof of the World" were launched as well.
To benefit tourists, Qingpu's cultural and tourism authorities rolled out an exclusive G318 package on Wednesday with discounts on scenic spots, hotels, homestays, local produce, entertainment, sports and exhibitions. Special offers include 3.18 yuan(46 US cents)discounts, limited deals at 31.8 yuan and packages at 318 yuan to boost consumption.
As the first stop of G318 in Shanghai, Qingpu District is vigorously promoting the integrated development of agriculture, culture, commerce, tourism, sports and exhibitions sectors.
By promoting G318 highway culture and building a highway tourism destination, it’s strivingto shape the "most Jiangnan" journey along the Shanghai section.
Launched in Songze Village, the event, together with the opening of 318 PARK, China's first comprehensive venue themed on G318 highway culture, will attract more highway enthusiasts to gather here and explore natural scenery, cultural landmarks and the profound 6,000yearold Songze civilization.
