Qingpu to launch 139 major projects to boost demonstration zone development Release time:April 14,2026

Qingpu District has announced the full launch of 139 major projects with a total investment of 260 billion yuan (US$38.12billion), focusing on strategic implementation, functional enhancement and people’s livelihoods. The district plans to complete 41.6 billion yuan of investment within the year.

The announcement was made at a recent major project matchmaking meeting of theYangtze River DeltaDemonstration Zone Development Alliance.

Under the theme of “a demonstration zone on rails,” 46 projects have been scheduled, with a total investment exceeding 92 billion yuan. A key example is the Shanghai Demonstration Zone Line, which will connect atWater TownLiving Room Station with the JiangsuWater TownLine and the Zhejiang Jiashan–Xitang Line. 

This marks Qingpu New Town’s transformation from a suburban outpost of Shanghai into the city’s representative in the Yangtze River Delta Demonstration Zone. Meanwhile, projects such as the widening of the G50 Shanghai–Chongqing Expressway and the construction of Qingpu Avenue are advancing at full speed.

To build a powerful engine for industrial innovation, 55 projects totaling over 112 billion yuan have been planned. Leveraging the Xicen Sci-Tech Innovation Center, part of the nation’s first cross-provincial high-tech zone (the Qingpu-Wujiang-Jiashan High-tech Zone), Qingpu is building upstream and downstream industrial chains around Huawei’s Lianqiu Lake R&D Center. This year, construction of the Fudan University Future Technology Institute will accelerate, working with Huawei to establish a future-oriented industry-education system and accelerate the agglomeration of high-end innovation elements.

Twenty-four social welfare projects, with a total investment exceeding 52 billion yuan, have been arranged. Among them, the Qingpu New Town campus of the National Medical Center of Zhongshan Hospital will be completed and put into use this year. As the first comprehensive national medical center project approved in China, it will address the region’s public service shortcomings.

Fourteen environmental improvement projects, totaling over 4.2 billion yuan, will focus on the ecological restoration and shoreline connection of Dianshan Lake, laying a solid ecological foundation for the future development of a world-renowned lake area.

In addition, infrastructure and public support facilities at the Xicen Sci-Tech Innovation Center are being accelerated. The Xicen Sports Center andWater TownPark will be largely completed within the year, while construction of the Future Technology Training Base will begin. Phase I of the Chuangzhi Engine inWater TownLiving Room will also be completed and put into operation.
