A key bridge on Shanghai's Demonstration Zone Line spanning the G50 Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway has been completed, marking full completion of 11 bridges in the project and accelerating construction of a regional intercity rail network linking Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang.

The nearly 250-meter continuous beam connects two ends of the elevated structure above the six-lane expressway in Qingpu District. The closure finishes all work for the 5.82-kilometer 5th section, which includes Zhujiajiao Station and elevated tracks between Zhujiajiao and Xicen.

The bridge, the section's most challenging structure, required synchronous cantilever construction with two sets of hanging baskets. The beam bottom sits just 8.7 meters above the road surface, with only 5.8 meters of clearance after equipment installation. Each concrete segment weighs up to 162 tons, demanding precise coordination and strict safety measures.

Construction teams installed full-enclosure protective netting to prevent debris from falling onto the highway, with 24-hour on-site supervision and video monitoring to ensure traffic safety.

"Every concrete pour and basket movement required repeated inspections to guarantee absolute safety," said Zeng Haowen, project manager of the 5th section with China Railway Shanghai Engineering Bureau.

The completion clears the way for track laying, station decoration and equipment installation across the line. Zhujiajiao Station in the 5th section and Xicen Station in the 4th section have both topped out, with interior work underway.

"With this bridge closure, all civil works for our section are finished, laying a solid foundation for subsequent track laying and station construction," said He Qiaoshi, project manager with Shanghai Shentie Investment Co.

Stretching 52.4 kilometers, the Demonstration Zone Line runs from Minhang District through Qingpu to the Water Town Living Room Station, serving as the Shanghai segment of the 170-kilometer Shanghai-Suzhou-Jiaxing Intercity Railway. The railway connects Shanghai's line with Jiangsu's Water Town Tourism Line and Zhejiang's Jiashan-Xitang and Jiaxing-Fengnan lines, marking a landmark infrastructure project for regional integration.

Upon completion, the line will offer service with single-ticket access across the network, turning the planned one-hour regional transport circle into reality. The project supports high-quality integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta Demonstration Zone, with construction progressing on schedule across all stations.
