A shaded woodland trail that runs directly to Suzhou Creek has opened to the public in Huayi Village, Qingpu District, offering local residents and city visitors a nearby natural escape amid summer heat.

The newly upgraded forest stays pleasantly cool even on sizzling summer days. Temperatures hover around 28 degrees Celsius at 10am, much lower than surrounding urban areas. Winding paths stretch through thick green foliage. Gentle breezes filter through the treetops, accompanied by cicada calls, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Multiple benches have been placed along the route for visitors to rest and enjoy the quiet woodland environment.

Two paved routes run through the forest. One is a 1.5‑meter‑wide wood‑textured concrete path that blends into the landscape. The second is an 1.8‑meter asphalt trail suitable for walking and jogging. Both paths connect to the Wusong River promenade in thenorth and continue toward the banks of Suzhou Creek.

At the northern edge of the woodland, the wide surface of Suzhou Creek comes into view. Walkers can watch golden sunset reflections spreading across the water on summer evenings. To the south, the forest borders residential neighborhoods. Dedicated entries have been built so villagers can easily reach the green space, turning the woodland into a free, accessible urban oxygen bar close to home.

The site was once a densely planted fir forest with heavily interlocked branches that blocked airflow, according to Lu Tingting, a staff member with the town's greenery company. Huaxin Town carried out scientific ecological plans, including selective thinning and pruning, to restructure the forest stand. After the project, sunlight can reach the forest and wind moves freely between trees.

Workers also cleared silt and fallen branches from former ditches and improved the drainage network. The upgraded system prevents waterlogging during rainy seasons, protects fir root systems and keeps woodland paths dry.

Planners balanced ecological improvement with community convenience. Ten new parking spaces were added on under‑used woodland ground without harming tree growth, easing parking pressure for nearby households. The project delivers both environmental benefits and practical public services.

With construction completed, the forest features well‑balanced tree density, reliable drainage and refreshed scenery. It combines leisure walking space with community amenities. Officials invite Shanghai residents to visit the trail this summer, slow downand seek coolness within the green woodland.
