Key thoroughfare opens to traffic in west Qingpu, boosting tech hub mobility Release time:October 08,2026
A major road renovation project in west Qingpu District has been fully completed and opened to traffic, upgrading local commuter conditions and strengthening transportation support for the Xicen Science and Innovation Center and the Yangtze River Delta Ecology and Greenery Integration Demonstration Zone.
After nearly two years of construction, the renovated Lianxi Road now serves as a vital north-south arterial route in western Qingpu. The project finished asphalt paving for its first section and launched full operation of the Beiheng Port Bridge, marking the official completion of the core road renovation work.
Stretching 3.05 kilometers, the upgraded road starts at G318 Huqingping Highway, passes through the Xicen Science and Innovation Center and Beiheng Port area, and ends at Lianjin Branch Road. Built to secondary highway standards, the route features a widened road boundary ranging from 40 to 48 meters, with a total investment of 1.385 billion yuan.
To adapt to the area's dense river network, the project constructed four new bridges including Cenwan River Bridge, Xinhong Port Bridge, Beiheng Port Bridge and Beiheng Port Branch River Bridge. Supporting infrastructure including rainwater and sewage pipelines was fully updated, comprehensively improving the road's functional capacity.
The renovation resolves long-standing local traffic problems, including narrow roadways, aging facilities and potential safety hazards. The widened and reinforced thoroughfare greatly improves travel efficiency for residents and cargo transportation for surrounding enterprises, forming a smooth north-south traffic corridor in western Qingpu.
The construction team overcame multiple complex engineering challenges throughout the project. Workers conducted high-risk over-water operations and deep foundation construction for the Beiheng Port Bridge over navigable waterways. The route also passes underneath the G50 Expressway, Metro Line 17 and the under-construction Demonstration Zone Line, limiting construction space amid busy existing transportation networks.
To minimize disruptions to daily commutes and business operations, builders adopted phased construction and partial traffic opening, avoiding large-scale, long-term road closures during the two-year construction period.
Beyond optimizing people's livelihood travel, the upgraded Lianxi Road serves as a core transportation backbone for regional industrial and urban integration. It connects residential communities, industrial parks and municipal facilities, fulfilling local residents' long-standing demand for improved travel conditions.
As a key infrastructure project in the core area of the demonstration zone, the road enhances external and internal connectivity for the Xicen Science and Innovation Center. It provides solid traffic support for talent commuting, industrial resource circulation and innovative factor aggregation in the tech hub.
The full opening of Lianxi Road symbolizes the rapid transformation of western Qingpu from a suburban rural area to a modern science and innovation hub. The upgraded traffic network unlocks regional location advantages, accelerates industrial vitality gathering and empowers high-quality integrated development in livelihood improvement, scientific innovation and urban construction.
